Mechanisms
During this unit, the children will learn about mechanisms. They will begin to plan and create a product that moves, using levers, wheels and winding mechanisms. The children will have to measure and mark out materials to the nearest centimetre within their model or structure. The safe use of tools when cutting and shaping will be important when creating their products. They will learn to join components in different ways. The children will learn how to make a design for their product, considering a clear purpose and who the intended user will be. They will choose the tools and materials, explaining why these have been chosen. To finalise they will evaluate their product and refine their design.
Cookery and Nutrition
In this unit, learners will learn that the human body needs a balanced diet to work properly. They will understand that good health involves drinking enough water and eating the right amount of food from different food groups. The children will also
understand how to weigh out and combine ingredients and create their own cakes as an end project. To finish up the unit the children will evaluate their cakes and decide what went well and what they could change to improve their method for the next time.
