Maths Year 1
Year 1
Autumn Term
In Maths this term, the children learnt to count forwards and backwards from any given number. Within this unit, they learnt to find one more and one less than a number. They worked on identifying and representing numbers using objects and pictorial representations including the number line.
Spring Term
During Spring Term, the children learnt to recognise, compose, decompose and manipulate 2D and 3D shapes. They have also learnt to estimate and measure in non-standard unit and centimetres and recorded these findings in a table.
They recapped number work, representing numbers, partitioning them and understanding which numbers are odd and even. The children have learnt addition and subtraction facts within 10, focussing on number bonds, doubling and halving; along with looking at consecutive numbers and odd and even numbers.
The children have been also looking at the representation, quantity and position of numbers 11-20. The children used the part-whole model and the bar model to understand 10 and a bit problems. Finally, the children have applied their knowledge of doubling to explain what happens to numbers 6-9 when doubled.
