Year 4

Autumn term

This term, the children considered the place value of each digit in a 4-digit number. They learnt how to represent and partition numbers 4-digit numbers in a variety of ways. Next, they compared and ordered numbers including how to place them on a number line. After that, they learnt to round to the nearest multiples of thousands, hundreds and tens, including relating this to measure. Finally, the children were introduced to the Roman and decimal number systems.

 

Spring term

The children learnt to write and calculate mathematical statements for multiplication and division using the multiplication tables that they know, including for two-digit numbers times one-digit numbers; using mental and progressing to formal written methods.  Using their multiplication and division knowledge, the children solved problem solving and reasoning questions. The children also learnt about fractions.
