Christianity - Christmas

During this unit the children will learn to reflect on the Christmas story and discuss what is the most significant part of the nativity story for Christians today and the reasons for Jesus’ birth.   They will investigate the beliefs of Christians, considering their belief that God gave Jesus to the world to save/help it and they will look forward to Christmas as a time of his birth. The children will listen to Bible stories showing examples of how Jesus shows love and kindness. They will discuss Christian’s belief of the teachings of Jesus through these stories, with the particular focus on Christmas and the Christmas story

How important is it for Jewish people to do what God asks them to do?

We are learning to understand how celebrating Passover and keeping Kashrut (food laws) help Jews show God they value their special relationship with him. Children will learn that Jewish people believe God asked Jews to keep to certain rules on what they eat/ don’t eat. Keeping these rules is their choice and if they choose to do this it is because they respect God and want to do as he asks. We will then discuss how important is it to Jewish people to do what God asks them to do and discuss what keeping Kosher tell us. They will learn about a special meal Jewish family have once a year at the Festival of Passover: the Seder meal. We will retell the story of the Exodus from Egypt under Moses.

Christianity

Key Question: Is forgiveness always possible? The children will look at the meaning of forgiveness and will understand why forgiveness is important to Christians.

Children will understand how Jesus’ life, death and resurrection teaches Christians about forgiveness.
